Cormocephalus westwoodi huttoni

Chilopoda
Scolopendridae

Also shared with Australia. This centipede is smaller than it congener, up to 8 cms, and also can give one a fright and bite. It is common within driftwood on beaches in the North Island and at least to Kaikoura in the south. It also occurs in dry forests. A record just south of Kaikoura must be close to its southern limit as it is yet to be found on Banks Peninsula and further south.
